Senior Reach in Action: Supporting Seniors with Tech Assistance

Without family in the area, Ms. P once felt like she didn’t know who to turn to when she had questions – like how to use her phone and computer, or how to navigate confusing changes to her Social Security benefits.

Through Senior Reach, Ms. P gained a consistent support network to help with these questions and more. Our Client Services Director worked closely with her to review a Social Security letter outlining changes to her Medicare benefits and helped her develop a revised monthly budget to accommodate those changes. He has also encouraged her to attend Senior Reach tech assistance events, where volunteers offer hands-on help with using devices.

At the most recent tech event, Ms. P got tips on using WhatsApp more effectively, and now feels more confident in making video calls to speak with family members abroad. For someone with no family in the area, who felt left behind technologically, this is a milestone in improving quality of life.

Ms. P has grown more confident in seeking answers on her own before contacting Senior Reach. She was able to independently navigate the Social Security website to obtain a form needed to submit a case review, a major accomplishment for her.

This kind of impact is hard to measure in a spreadsheet, but the look on Ms. P’s face and her words—“I feel so much better knowing I have someone to talk these things through with”—say everything.
