Jefferson House in Action: Mr. K Builds a Path Forward

This year marked a meaningful shift for Mr. K, a long-term resident at Jefferson House. With guidance from the new client services director, he began taking intentional steps to prepare for life beyond the structured support of the Housing Program, building a foundation of stability for his future. He now feels ready to transition forward, allowing someone with greater needs to benefit from the Housing Program.

One of Mr. K’s major milestones involved re-engaging with the process of receiving SSDI benefits. After years of stalled applications, worked closely with Ali, the client services director, to complete every requirement.

With this new financial stability, he opened his first bank account and now speaks with excitement about the possibility of having his own home, a place where his grandchildren can visit and family can gather.

Mr. K also deepened his commitment to recovery. He has a sponsor for the first time in his almost 11 years of sobriety, a network of relationships, and a service position in his NA meetings.

He smiles when discussing his new sponsorship family and role, saying it is a way for him to give back what was so freely given to him when he was a newcomer to the program.

Mr. K has worked to build a new supportive environment for when he eventually moves out of Jefferson House and into his next phase. He is excited to begin looking for independent housing as he prepares for a smooth transition into his own living quarters. We’re honored to continue walking with him on this new path.
