Food as Medicine Program
Kaseman Clinic has a new program called Food as Medicine, which provides free weekly fruits and vegetables to help patients manage conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Participants can also access nutrition education and personal support from our team to learn more about managing their health conditions and building a healthy lifestyle.
What does the Food as Medicine program include?
Access to Healthy Food
- From July-November, participants receive $144/month to buy produce at markets
- Funds are loaded on a card that can be used at any market location
- Markets operate Tue-Fri at 9 locations throughout the county
Nutrition Classes
- One 60 minute class per month for 5 months, offered virtually and in-person
- Participants who attend in-person will receive an additional free bag of produce at each in-person class
- Participants who attend 4/5 classes will receive a $100 grocery gift card when the program ends
Medical Check-ins
- Participants must attend at least 2 medical check-ups between July - end of November.
- Kaseman clinic staff will help schedule the appointments and send reminders.
Personal Support
- A bilingual nurse will work with participants to give advice on managing health conditions
- MKHC staff will be available to help if any concerns or issues arise during the program
