Meet Claudia
LOP Advanced Student
Claudia, originally from Colombia, joined the Advanced LOP class in early 2024. She was thrilled to find an affordable, convenient way to study after long days on her feet at work. She found the Advanced class fun and engaging, mentioning the respectful, thorough approach of her teacher and the feeling of community she found with her fellow students.
With improved English, Claudia will be better able to discuss complex topics with her employer and feel more comfortable during gatherings with her daughter's American fiancé and his family. After years working in service industries, Claudia's health has declined, and she hopes to use her improved English skills to find a remote job that she can do from home.
Claudia plans to continue improving her skills in LOP's conversation and pronunciation classes, and has been sharing information about LOP with her friends and acquaintances.
"I am thankful that there are programs like this, offering people like me the opportunities to open new doors to reach our goals."
30 Years of Success
The Language Outreach Program, launched in 1993, provides ESL and conversation classes to new immigrants and non-English speaking residents of Montgomery County, Maryland. Over 30 years, it has become a trusted community resource, expanding to offer Citizenship preparation classes and pronunciation classes.
As a family-oriented program, LOP also works with the children of adult students, offering tutoring and childcare while parents are in class.
To date, over 10,000 adult students have taken classes with LOP, and over 4,000 children have received tutoring.
