CMR Mission Statement

Community Ministries of Rockville seeks to improve the quality of life for the most vulnerable of
Montgomery County residents by (1) providing basic services including housing, healthcare,
homecare, education, and emergency assistance, with the goal of achieving and maintaining client
self-sufficiency, and (2) advocating on their behalf.

In support of this mission, we combine the efforts of congregations to:

  • Provide shelter and empowerment for the homeless
  • Assist the frail elderly in their home
  • House working, formerly homeless men
  • Offer emergency assistance support to families and individuals in crisis
  • Teach basic English to recent immigrant adults and children
  • Provide health services to the uninsured and under-insured
  • Advocate with government and private sectors
  • Lead and support community efforts on behalf of those in need

Advocacy

ADVOCACY makes the voice of conscience heard. It is our mission to see that compassion and
justice will transcend and hopefully transform all other agendas. We do this by attending public
meetings (including the Maryland Interfaith Legislative Committee and Rockville City Council),
speaking out for those who cannot do so for themselves, and working with local legislators to keep
the values of justice, fairness, and compassion in the decision making process.

Current Direct Service Programs

Rockville Emergency Assistance Program: provides emergency assistance to families and
individuals in crisis by paying rent to avoid evictions; helping with utilities to prevent cut offs; or
providing money for food, medication, and other essential family and individual needs.

Elderly Ministries Program: enables frail elderly Rockville residents to avoid premature
institutionalization and continue to live in their own homes by providing home health care and
safety home repairs.

Kaseman Health Clinic: provides health services to uninsured adults in the Greater Rockville Area
and close in Montgomery County.

Jefferson House: provides transitional housing to homeless men who have finished a recovery
and/or treatment program but who cannot find clean, safe affordable housing in Montgomery
County.

Latino Outreach Program: offers a unique, family-centered approach to language skill
development for Hispanic families who are struggling with the English language and cultural
barriers to learning.
