MANSFIELD M. KASEMAN HEALTH PROGRAM

In the greater Rockville area and Montgomery County, it
is estimated that there are over 100,000 people who
have no health insurance. In all of the health clinics and
programs currently offered, there are only about 12,000
or 12% receiving services. This leaves thousands of
people who need health services but are not aware of
resources and consequently are not able to receive
health care.
Health Services
Community Ministries of Rockville (CMR), in partnership with Capital Technology Information
Services (
CTIS) and with additional support from Kaiser Permanente conducted a series of focus
groups with medical providers, caregivers and clients to determine the exact nature of the health
program services needed, and the population needing them most. The number one priority was the
growing Hispanic community in the greater Rockville area (nearly 50% of the Hispanic population in
the state of Maryland live in close in Montgomery and Prince George County).
As a result of this, Community Ministries of
Rockville, in partnership with Mobile Med, began a
new Community Health Initiative that has begun to
serve the most vulnerable and underserved
people in our community. It is our intent for the
program to grow to serve the uninsured and
underinsured poor, elderly, homeless,
African-Americans, Asian and any other group in
our society that is not being served. Our health
services were first offered to the Hispanic
Community with weekly visits arranged through the
health component of our Latino Outreach Program
The services include initial diagnosis, referral, prevention, counseling, training, and education. This
program, starting with the existing LOP families, will begin to meet the needs of the Hispanic
community and will allow interaction with programs that this community does not know how to reach.
Culturally and linguistically competent services are provided for the Hispanic community. Since no
one provides services specifically addressed to the Latino, then the underserved and uninsured will
begin to be given the support that is needed to get prompt, competent, dependable and economical
health care and support.
